So this has been going on for about 3 months now. I am new to the area and in high school. Right before Christmas I got jumped by a local drug dealer thinking I broke into his car... Now ever since then he has told the police it was me and recently a lot of other robberies have happened in the area. Now keep in mind, my house was one of the houses and cars broken into. They stole money, and iPod, and a gun from my house. Everything was calm for about three weeks until yesterday. I got pulled out of class and detectives wanted me to go to the police station... So I went after school with my mom. When we got there the detective wanted to speak with me alone. He asked me a lot of rhetorical questions, but I answered all to the best of my knowledge. I'm really just wanting to know, next time I go down to the station or speak with the police about it, should I ask for my parents to be there and a lawyer? Everyone says to have a lawyer, but is it needed in this situation.
You need an attorney, period. Please consult with an attorney in the area you live and get some legal representation and advice. Too many things can happen that can become a real problem. You will end up waiving various rights you have and making your circumstances more complex. Even if you have not done anything wrong, you are now being investigated, questioned and consulting with a law enforcement agency. They have a job to do and are doing it. You need a lawyer to help you navigate this situation.
Good luck. Get an attorney to help you.
