QUESTION

Do I face prison for possession of firearms and why?

Asked on Sep 16th, 2015 on Criminal Law - Colorado
More details to this question:
My home was being remodeled and I had to temporally stay with my landlord. He had guns. I have 2 prior felonies. The gun was found on the back porch hanging by the deputy sheriff in Fairfield, Iowa. Since my release from prison all I have been doing is concentrating on being a law abiding citizen, to be successful in life. I recently graduated for college with my associateโ€™s degree for business management to further my chances to be successful person. I did not touch the guns and had no intentions to possess any of them. I was merely in a living situation and did not pay attention to the law of being a felon. I honestly forgot I am/was a felon. When I was in prison all I thought about was going back out into society and being a productive, law abiding person.

It is highly unlikely you will see any jail time. BUT, pay attention to your probation requirements and restriction afterwards!

Yes, but if you never touched the gun and did not otherwise possess or control it, you have a good defense.
