QUESTION

Do I have to speak with a detective?

Asked on Jul 13th, 2018 on Criminal Law - Florida
More details to this question:
I received a phone call about 7 weeks ago from a detective with the Tampa Police Dept, and I returned his call but never heard anything back until yesterday. He called yesterday and stated that my former employer had filed a complaint against me, that he is claiming that I paid myself for hours that I did not work. He didn't ask me to go the station, he suggested meeting either at my home or at a public location, if that made me more comfortable. I agreed to meet him at a nearby public park. I know I probably shouldn't meet with him but I'm scared that I will be considered guilty if I don't

You never have to speak to this detective.  If you do, take an attorney with you, although  if I were your attorney I would advise you against going at all or even ever speaking to any law enforcement ever or anyone else about this issue.  Your words can easily be misconstrued against you.
