QUESTION

Do I necessarrily need an attorney for a shoplifting charge? 2nd offense.

More details to this question:
I am located in SC and because the matter goes before a magistrate judge and not general sessions I do not qualify for a court appointed attorney. I was told the most that can happen there is a 30 day jail term. I have 4 kids and a career in the educational field and can't risk a sentence that long. Should I just plead guilty and hopefully get some fines and probation??

You don't need an attorney, but I would advise retaining one. If you are found guilty you may also have to repay the store a multiple of the amount stolen in a civil action.
