QUESTION

Do I really need a lawyer/attorney?

Asked on Apr 16th, 2022 on Criminal Law - Florida
More details to this question:
I and another individual were caught shoplifting. The cops combined everything we stole separately and made it all together at one price. So I have a misdemeanor and a felony on my record. This was my first violation, and I had no prior criminal record. I'm hoping to avoid jail time. Is it necessary for me to hire an attorney, or should I rely on the public defender?
