QUESTION

Do warrants and conviction laws follow you state to state?

Asked on Aug 21st, 2013 on DUI/DWI - Connecticut
More details to this question:
I got my 4th DUI visiting Vermont, suspended licence and speeding. The ticket written by police in VT wrote a wrong licence plate number. Three attempts on breathalyzer did not work. They brought me to a fire station to have an EMT draw blood. The results were slightly above the legal limit. What are the consequences if convicted and does a warrant follow you state to state? I reside in CT.

If there is an arrest warrant issued by the authorities in one state, you can be arrested in another state. If you are arrested in that other state (and to some extent the authorities in the other state have some discretion), the process is then an extradition proceeding if the issuing state decides to take you back. A conviction may impact proceedings in another state. It all depends on the nature of the conviction and the pending charges in the second state.
