More details to this question:
my friend got in trouble a month ago, there was no charges pressed. then he finds out 06/17 that the are going to get him on a felony charge with a sentence of 2-10 yrs. I beleive that the charges were picked up due to his past trouble.

Without knowing more about the case, that is a difficult question to answer. Being charged with a felony is a serious matter. Your friend should consult with an experienced criminal defense attorney. That lawyer can review the facts with him, the police reports, etc. and then can properly advise him of his options.
