QUESTION

Does a DUI hurt my chances of getting citizenship?

Asked on Jul 22nd, 2011 on DUI/DWI - New Jersey
More details to this question:
My boyfriend is here illegally. He recently got a DUI and was fingerprinted. I was told that in NJ, DUI is only a traffic offense. Does this hurt his way of going home and coming into the country legally? If we were to get married, would I be able to bring him over?

It does not prevent him from legalizing, but it will be considered and must be disclosed. The biggest problem you have is that he is here illegally now, and that is a very difficult obstacle to overcome. You need a lawyer to help you through that process if you want to succeed.
