QUESTION

Federal bench warrant in SC - easiest way to fix it

Asked on Sep 01st, 2013 on Criminal Law - South Carolina
More details to this question:
I have a bench warrant in SC for a federal case. I was never notified of the charges being filed against me and never recited any summons. I found about about the bench warrant when the marshals went to my mothers home looking for me. What's the easiest way to clear this up? I'm now living in another state. Should I go back to the state where the charges were filed and go to the courthouse? Can I call the clerk and request a new hearing date? Or should I just go to my local authorities and turn myself in? I want to get this taken care of as quickly as possible with the least amount of complications. What should I do?

This may not be the answer you want, but the easiest way to take care of a bench warrant is to turn yourself in.  Of course, if you do, you will be arrested, booked, detained, and will not be able to help yourself.  If you have a job, you might lose it if you can't get bail quick enough.  You might want a lawyer working in your corner before you do that.
