The answer to your question is very dependent on the county in which she was charged. Some counties are much more lenient than others. In my home county of Gaston, a first offense misdemeanor larceny will usually be dismissed if the defendant completes some amount of community service. Having an attorney in this type of situation is very important because this is a discretionary decision on the prosecutor's part as to whether or not to drop the charge. Hiring an attorney could help prevent her from having a mar on her record until she's 18 years old.
