My registration was suspended due to insurance lapse. My vehicle was impounded, and I have a court appearance. I must provide valid documentation at time of appearance. In the mean time, my car was impounded, with a fee of $189.00 to get it released. This fee is astronomical. How can I avoid this fee, which affects whether I can pay registration, and insurance renewals. Daily impound fee is $25.00 per day, so I have to act immediately.

You cannot avoid the impound fees. You should negotiate with the lot asap and also make sure that all the NJ DMV requirements are met beforehand. You will then be successful.
