QUESTION

How can I get my gun back from the police

Asked on Dec 25th, 2017 on Criminal Law - Tennessee
More details to this question:
My car was broken into and my gun was stolen, I filed a police report on the gun & the man who stole the gun was later found in a vehicle he had previously carjacked. Police have been giving me the run around and told me to call back in the spring to see what happened with the case, I found out today all the charges the man had got dismissed for “lack of prosecution” what does that mean ? And if the case was dismissed why can I not have my property back?

"lack of prosecution" means that the state has decided not to prosecute the person. Get a copy of the document that shows that the state has decided not to prosecute the person and take that to the police department to show them. You are entitled to get your gun back.
