QUESTION

How can I get my sentence lessened for a drug conviction?

Asked on Sep 17th, 2011 on Criminal Law - Arkansas
More details to this question:
I am currently being charged with manufacturing marijuana in the state of Arkansas. I am using a public defender as of now and I have my plea in 4 days (mandatory court appearance), my plea bargain is 8 years suspended, 2 years (ADC) which means I will end up doing anywhere from 4-9 months. I am a first time offender. My question is, is there anything I could do to lessen my sentence? Am I out of time on getting a lawyer, or would I better my chance at lessening my sentence with a criminal lawyer? Any advice would be helpful.

As a first time offender you could be offered drug court and probation, also under Act 346, the First Time Offender statute, you can receive probation and after you successfully complete your probation have the conviction expunged. You might to ask the court for a continuance to seek private counsel.
