How can I get seized property back

More details to this question:
my son is accused of harassing an old girlfriend via emails. Police searched his apartment and seized his personal and work computers, as well as his cell phone. His work computer has proprietary info on it and he needs it for work.

As long as the case is pending, the police won't return the computer to your son. As long as the case is pending, that computer, and whatever they found on it, will be considered part of the evidence of the case. Once the case is over, he will likely be able to get it back.
