Yesterday, I was involved with a road rage incident where a person caused damage to my vehicle after he had gotten out of his car at a light to confront me. This was witnessed by a police officer how followed him to a nearby business along with myself and put him in handcuffs right before my eyes. The officer asked me if I wanted to press charges. I said that all I wanted was him to pay for the damage. He indicated that he would give me the report number and I could call the prosecutor and press charges if I should chose to. So that is what I did. Today, I looked up the report online and both his name and address and my name and address are on the report. I have a couple questions: 1) Is there any way that I can make this man pay for my damages without going to court? 2) Do you think he got the report number from the officer as I did? That would mean that this lunatic knows where I live.
Unless he agrees to pay your damages, you would have to press charges and make sure restitution is part of the plea deal; And yes, the report is public record.
