Don't represent yourself in a case like this. Either hire a private criminal defense attorney, or have the public defender at the court your hearing is in represent you.

You should seek the advise of an attorney. If you cannot afford an attorney ask the court to appoint one for you.

You need to hire a good lawyer. You cannot successfully defend yourself on a charge like this. The court system is not meant for lay people to defend themselves. The court does not give courtesy to people who defend themselves. They are expected to know the rules of evidence and procedure, just as any lawyer would be expected to know. The court will appoint an attorney for you if you can't afford one, but either way, you need a good lawyer.

If you are not a citizen, you must be very careful so you will not be deported. Deportation happens when a crime is punished by a sentence of 365 days or more or the crime involves moral turpitude.

Filing a false police report is a misdemeanor, but residential burglary is a felony (and a strike under the three strikes law). This is way too complex an issue to resolve via a question and answer on the internet. You need to be sitting down face to face with a good local criminal defense attorney. Look for a lawyer that focuses on criminal law, not somebody that just does "some" criminal cases. Because of what's at stake, find a lawyer ASAP

Why would you lie about what happened? Would you lie if this same thing happened in your country? You're in trouble because of the lies and now nobody will believe you. Did you file charges on the guy that shot you? You can also sue him. Hire an attorney to defend yourself and to sue the shooter.

You will regret if you decide to defend yourself. It will surely end badly for you. Time to shop around for a lawyer before you incriminate yourself further by talking to the wrong people.

You need to get an attorney, these are serious charges and the public defender will be appointed to represent you if you cannot afford an attorney. Do not try to defend yourself. You would not want a baker to perform brain surgery.

Raise all appropriate defenses with whatever witnesses, evidence and sympathies are available for legal arguments, for evidence suppression or other motions, or for trial. If you don't know how to represent yourself effectively against an experienced prosecutor intending to convict, then hire an attorney who does, who will try to get a dismissal, charge reduction, diversion, program, or other decent outcome through motions, plea bargain, or take it to trial if appropriate. If serious about hiring counsel to help in this, and if the charges are in SoCal courts, feel free to contact me. I?ll be happy to help fight this and get the best outcome possible, using whatever defenses there may be.
