I gave someone the title to my car because I misunderstood how selling a car works. It was the first time I've sold a car to another person, now I find out the car is still in my name. I don't want responsibility for that car and I don't have access to the buyer. I'm going to get a duplicate title but then how can I remove my name from the title? I don't care if the buyer can't sell the car, its not my problem. I live in Ohio. Do I go to the court of common pleas? Do I need a lawyer? I called the DMV and the woman didn't seem to know what to do.
If you have in fact sold the car, you will not have any responsibility for an accident caused by someone driving the car, even if title is still in your name. You would win any lawsuit brought against you.
