QUESTION
How do I go about getting a harassment charge off my record?
Asked on Mar 27th, 2014 on Criminal Law - Missouri
More details to this question:
I had a harassment and disorderly conduct charge from a bar fight. My lawyer got one charge dropped and I paid a $180 fine. I asked him if it would be on my record when I apply for jobs and they do a background check, and he replied, "No, they treat this just like a traffic violationโ. When I got an email saying my account for an online job I had was suspended due to this charge I was upset. What do I do to get this completely erased?

If you were arrested, the record of the arrest will show up on your criminal background report, even if your lawyer got the actual charge dismissed. There is no way to get rid of the arrest record unless you can prove you were arrested based on false information and no charges were filed, which doesn't seem to be the situation in your case. If the charge that your lawyer says was dropped is showing up on your criminal background report, you should contact your lawyer about this and have him contact the court to check with the court records department to have them correct the mistake.
