How long does it take for an indictment charge?

I was arrested for an indictment charge on January 27 2017 for allegedly selling a controlled substance to a confidential informant back on July 13, 2015. How can they do that after so long?

The Prosecuting Attorney has up to 1 year (for misdemeanors) and up to 3 years (for most felonies) to file criminal charges.
