QUESTION

How long does it take to get a conviction?

Asked on Nov 08th, 2014 on Criminal Law - Oklahoma
More details to this question:
My home was broken into while my husband and I were away. I walked in on the criminal. He left the home before I could see him, but a K9 unit found him with our property on his person. He was injured while leaving and is now facing a felony burglary charge. This occurred at the end of July this year. I'm ready for answers and closure. How long will it take on average for court proceedings to begin and how long should it take for the criminal to be sentenced? My local system is not being too helpful with my questions.

The time will vary. There truly is no more accurate answer. A defendant may choose to plead quickly. A defendant may demand a trial, and then have to wait his turn. A defendant may have competency issues which could delay a resolution indefinitely, even permanently.
