QUESTION

How long will I go to jail for taking a jacket forgotten at a public library?

Asked on Dec 19th, 2015 on Criminal Law - Michigan
More details to this question:
I stole the jacket off the back of a chair. I was going to turn it in but took it instead. That same night the police came to my house and asked for the jacket. I had washed it and took it out of the dryer and gave it to the officer. Tonight the police came back, they knocked, waited then left. A while later they were back and did the same. I left my house, and I'm staying at a friend's. I plan on turning myself in on Monday. What's your take? Thank you for your time.

Call police dept detective bureau first before you turn yourself in to see what they wanted. Then decide if you need an attorney. Do not speak about incident to police because you'll probably confess to something. If they are going to charge - sounds like they are - don't help them convict you with a stupid admission.
