It was for a misdemeanor domestic violence, at 4 months. He missed 3 classes and is struggling with payments plus 50 hours community service.

You should hire a lawyer to go to court to recall the warrant. A lawyer can do this without you present if the underlying charge is a misdemeanor, so it is less risky for you. Then the lawyer can try to reinstate you with same terms and conditions.
