QUESTION

How will I know if my warrant is already lifted?

Asked on Jan 06th, 2014 on Criminal Law - Florida
More details to this question:
I have a warrant in Florida. It is 3.5 years old. I was told from a friend of a friend at the state attorney to just wait until September of this past year for the statute of limitations to expire. September came and went and its still there. I am in another state and want to return to Florida but want to wait until this is lifted. How do I find out how or if they will be taking it off.

Criminal Defense Attorney serving Deltona, FL at R. Jason de Groot, P.A.

You need to hire a criminal defense attorney in the county that the warrant is pending to look into this. The statute of limitations does not run when you voluntarily leave the state. It is still an active warrant and what you heard from a friend of a friend is inaccurate. You must deal with the criminal charges. But witnesses for the state may no longer be available to testify against you.
