QUESTION

How would I get information for my case?

Asked on Jan 05th, 2013 on Criminal Law - Florida
More details to this question:
I got a voicemail from a company claiming they are trying to serve me and they gave a case number to reference when I call but they are not open until Monday. I want to know what this is about before then. I was wondering if you could look up a case number to let me know what it is about.

The courts are not open on weekends either, so just wait and call them to see what this is about. valid.

This sounds more like a civil case than a criminal one, as service in a criminal case is usually done by the police, not a private company. Nevertheless, if you have the case number, you can go to the courthouse and look at the file. I suggest that you stop worrying about the service, though, and just face the music. If you do have a Complaint out there, and you are able to avoid service, if it is a civil suit, you may find out that the plaintiff ultimately got substituted service by publishing the Summons in a newspaper which you would never see. Then, you may have the case go forward without you. You are usually better off in letting them serve you.

Probably not because the case number they are using is their own. You can try to look at the clerk of court website in your county and there might be a case there with your name.
