I have a question about false identification

More details to this question:
My husband was sitting outside of a gas station after he came out of the store about 20 minutes later to cops came knocking on his vehicle asking for identification he asked them what was their reason they did not have a reason so he failed to give him there his name because he felt he had no reason to give his name to them well they ended up charging him with false identification because he gave a different name but they had no reason at all to either be bothering him is there any way that he can beat these charges
