QUESTION

I need advice on what to do

Asked on Feb 27th, 2019 on Criminal Law - Tennessee
More details to this question:
I hired my son a lawyer and he got him 6 years at 30 percent. He promised me that my son would only have to do the 30 percent which he has already done. When he went up for parole it was denied. My lawyer told me he was filing an appeal which had to be filled within 45 days of the parole hearing. I called the parole board and they told me that appeal has not been filled. He has been lying and taking my money. I have given him $8,000.00 dollars and still owe him $2,000.00. My son is going to have to spend another 3 years in prison because my lawyer didn't file the appeal he was supposed to. My lawyer is also a judge in another county. Can I sue him for this and also can my son get an appeal even though the 45 days are up since my lawyer lied about it.

You can sue but the chances of you winning would be very small. I would suggest that you file a complaint with the Board of Professional Responsibility, which is the state board that handles the regulation of attorneys.
