QUESTION

I took $140 from my cash register

More details to this question:
A cop came I was not arrested but he did file a report and a court notice will be coming in the mail for me. I have never been arrested before this is my first offense I need legal advice.

It seems unlikely that this would be an indictable offense, but you will likely charged in municipal court. You may also receive a letter for restitution which is often sent out to people charged for shoplifting and other forms of theft. I would consult with a criminal law attorney before making any statements to employer or to police as any admissions can be used against you.

the amount of the theft was very small, and you may be charged with some type of municpal violation.  I would talk to the employer and find out what charges are being filed, and what can be done about restitution and working this out.  The police will not pursue it if the business owner does not want to.
