More details to this question:
I was recently fired from my job when confronted about taking cash for inventory and letting it walk out. I confessed and wrote a letter stating what I did along with my former manager. He did the same as well. We were informed that a statement, while not taking away what we did, would be taken into consideration. Afterwards I received my last check and then did not hear from them. I finally received a circuit court summons to appear for an arraignment this week. I applied for a public defender because I don't really have the means at this moment to seek a private attorney. My former manager and myself have both sent e-mails and called regarding them allowing us to start immediate restitution but have not gotten much feedback. We are being charged with two counts. one of theft over 1000 under 10000, the other theft scheme over 1000 under 10000. I just don't know what to do or expect. I had to call public defender and finally reached someone and they told me that I didn't have to show up.
You don't want to miss a court date, so call the circuit court who issued the summons to be sure. I don't know Maryland law but maybe the PD is handling that for you but i would double check. If you miss a court date you can be arrested. I would also hire a lawyer or ask your PD about first time offender programs that can result in you not having a conviction.
