My ex-boyfriend wouldn't let me leave the apartment and would forcefully move me out of the way when I tried to leave. He has physical assaulted me on numerous occasions. He was blocking me in and I wanted to distract him. He got really mad at me and choked me. Would I be at fault?

It is legal if you are trying to escape unlawful confinement, as these facts would indicate. You may use any force necessary to free yourself.
