QUESTION

Is it possible to charge more than one person for shoplifting same merchandise

Asked on Dec 01st, 2015 on Criminal Law - South Carolina
More details to this question:
I simply walked out of walmart with my codefendent who was shoplifting at the time but we were both arrested. I served over five months in jail waiting because my public defender was trying to get me to plea to a crime I did not commit and offering me drug court. I have a notorized statement from my codefendant who is serving time for this as well as a probation violation. He is willing to testify on my behalf as I was not the one doing the shoplifting. Is it even possible to charge me when he is doing the time for the crime?

It sounds like you were charged as an accomplice.  I suggest that you consult with a criminal defense attorney if you are not happy with your public defender. Regards, I am Dr. Michael G. Sribnick, Esq. criminal defense attorney in Charleston, S.C. Michael G. Sribnick, M.D., J.D., LLC
