QUESTION

Is it possible to have my gun rights restored if I did time for armed robbery?

Asked on Feb 25th, 2014 on Expungements - California
More details to this question:
I was arrested, in California, for armed robbery in December 1989. I was released from prison January 1992. I did my parole time and it has now been more then 22 years without any problems (parole violations, new crimes, etc...). I moved to Montana, where I currently live, in October 2011. My brother, who is an avid hunter, also lives in Montana. I would sure like to own guns again to be able to hunt with him. I've heard that California is one of the toughest states to have gun rights reinstated, especially since a gun was used in the crime. Also it wouldn't be very easy for me to travel to California for any legal proceedings.

Contact a California attorney in the jurisdiction where you were arrested. You could request a 17b motion or a rehabilitation by the Governor.

Any request like that must be filed in the county in CA where you live. You need to establish a CA residence.
