Is there a statue of limitations on a DWI?

More details to this question:
I was charged with a DWI 4/3/10 in the state of Missouri I went to court I was not on the list the judge told me he found no charges but if something showed up I would be notified then 7/4/2012 I received a summons to appear 9/11/2012. Can they do that I thought there was a time limit?

In most cases in Missouri, the statute of limitations is one year for a misdemeanor and three years for a felony. There are exceptions in some cases that may lengthen those times.
