QUESTION

Is there a way I can get my gun rights restored?

Asked on Dec 07th, 2013 on Criminal Law - Michigan
More details to this question:
I was charged for domestic violence in 2003. It's on my record as a misdemeanor, not a felony. I now cannot even take my son hunting because I can't buy a gun. I moved back to my home state in 2004. It's been years ago. My question is, is there a way I can get this removed from my record so I can at least own a firearm again? And if so, who do I contact? This is a really big burden on me for something stupid that happened years ago. If I could get help with my situation, it will be very much appreciated. Thanks.

You should be eligible to have the convictions set aside. Search for a Michigan expungement attorney in your area who can help you with this process. However, you may still be precluded from having a firearm under federal law.
