QUESTION

Is there anything else that can be done in restoring my gun rights?

Asked on Oct 22nd, 2015 on Criminal Law - Washington
More details to this question:
I was convicted of 2nd degree burglary in September 2002 when I was 20. Shortly after (within 3 weeks), I was in trouble again with a misdemeanor criminal trespass and malicious mischief. The last time I got into trouble (March 2003). I got a disorderly conduct misdemeanor. I will spare you the details, but all the incidents involved alcohol, and they taught me an unfortunate, yet excellent, life lesson. I am now 34, have been married for 11 years, have an excellent career that pays decent and consider myself to be a decent, moral, upstanding citizen. In 2013, I requested a certificate of discharge from the court and received it. Now I would like to be able to join my friends and family on hunting trips and would like to get my gun rights restored. What are my options? I know I can request a pardon. Thank you for your time!

Your chances of getting your civil liberties back are very good. Go online for the forms and instructions you will need to follow to get it before a judge. There are attorneys that specialize in this area, so you can go that route if you wish. Good luck.

Given what you have described, it sounds as if you would be eligible to restore your firearms rights. You would need to go back to the superior court in the county where you were convicted of the crime that resulted in the loss of your gun rights.
