May I obtain a handgun permit while on probation for a misdemeanor DUI?

More details to this question:
It started as a felony however, it was reduced due to an active role in recovery.

Only a felony is a problem when you apply for a gun permit in New York.

Ask your probation officer - it may be that you are not allowed to have a gun on probation

A dui charge has no effect upon a person right to possess a firearm. Make sure you have never been charged with a felony or a domestic violence charge.
