Vehicular homicide is a very serious charge.  If he is not  going to get or keep a public defender you should cotact a criminal defense attorney immediately and he should not talk to anyone until he does that.  I would look for a board certified criminal trial attorney to insure that the attorney has the background and experience to handle a serious charge such as this.  You can find one in the county you live in by doing an online search or calling the local bar assocaition.
