My son is 19 in college and was playing a joke with his other friends made a terrorist threat and was arrested he chose a jury trial was this wise??

My son and his friends was playing a joke on another student slipped a note under her door threatening to harm her she pressed charges he was arrested he opted out of a review and it's going to jury trial he has never been in trouble before and in his 1st year in college
