More details to this question:
Hello let me start by saying I'm 18 , female who finished high school . I started working in target in November as a seasonal worker . I was arrested 2/18/16 for fraud gift cards . $500 and one for $600 before being arrested I signed a promissory note stating I would pay target back everything I owe gladly . I've never been arrested before and the police said I now have two counts of petit larceny , they said going to jail is highly unlikely and I would most likely get probation or a violation with a fine . Is this true ? Will I go to jail for this offense being that it's my first one ? I already have been fired from target and agreed to pay back everything i owe from target
Keonna,
Being arrested for the first time can be extremely stressful. In most first arrest theft cases in New York City, it is highly unlikely that you will face jailtime. With that said, you need to make sure that your case does not end up with any permanent criminal record. Any criminal conviction can have a permanent impact on your future. You should make sure your attorney pushes for a non conviction disposition, such as an ACD. Best of luck.
