I recently received a speeding ticket going 90 in a 70 in Virginia. I have two tickets in VA previously one from last and one before that neither being reckless. My car is registered in MD but I go to college in VA. I was going to do a drivers improvement before my court date. I have a lawyer friend and he thinks I should get a lawyer. My questions are do you really think I need to get one and is there any other suggestions you would make. Thannks
The primary advantage to having a lawyer in court for this kind of case is that they can talk to the prosecutor ahead of time and work out the best deal for you. Without a lawyer, the prosecutor might not even talk to you, so you would have to go in front of the judge and defend yourself, without having it worked out ahead of time. Plus you may not know all of the options available. With a record like yours, it may be worth it to hire a lawyer to possibly save yourself some points.
