QUESTION

Relatives to the "entrapment defence"

Asked on Jan 12th, 2016 on Criminal Law - New Jersey
More details to this question:
Ive heard of a a relative to the renown "entrapment" defense which is known as the "Outrageous Government Involvement" defense. The "Outrageous Government Involvement" defense has been utilized in cases in which the "entrapment" defense would be inappropriate. If a law enforcement official establishes a "sting operation" and reaches out to a (potential) criminal in order to lure the "criminal" into the sting op, that would be "Outrageous Government Involvement". The "Outrageous Government Involvement" defense was mentioned in a book called "The Outlaw's Bible" by E.X. Boozhie. I'd like to get some more information about the "Outrageous Government Involvement" defense. Could you give more information to me?

This is a very interesting area of the law. The prosecution is given discretion to 'entrap' in certain areas where the crimes are considered as serious threats to society. For example, treason or child sex crimes or drug trafficking. Read about the most recent ISIS cases and you will see what I mean. Read also the child sex cases. Entrapment is permitted. Ed Dimon
