QUESTION

Restoration Of Gun rights

Asked on Sep 10th, 2012 on Expungements - Michigan
More details to this question:
I have a felony assault conviction from 1999. As well as a domestic misdemeanor from around 2004. In Michigan, you are allowed to ask for a restoration of gun rights after 5 years pertaining to a felony. However I'm told the domestic will void me from owning a firearm. However, I see nothing in the Michigan Penal code that makes reference to this "federal" ban on domestic convictions. Is it possible that Michigan does not recognize this federal law?

The Lautenberg amendment makes it a federal felony for any one convicted of a domestic violence misdemeanor to own, possess or but a fireamrm.
