Stop Payment on Goods received

More details to this question:
I sold a horse to someone in Ohio. This person came to NJ to pick up the horse and since I had worked with this person before I accepted a $4000 check for a stallion. She stop payment on the check the next day but has possession of the horse...what is my course of action?

The practical answer is civil litigation. You can contact the county prosecutor where you live, and tell them about this matter, but I do not believe The prosecutor perceive this to be a criminal matter.you have a choice to sue the person in Ohio. This would require hiring anOhio attorney. You could also sue the person in New Jersey, obtain a judgment in New Jersey, and then use that judgment in Ohio collect your money's. The problem for you is your legal costs. These costs may exceed the value of the horse.
