QUESTION

What am I looking at for first time shoplifting misdemeanor?

Asked on Nov 05th, 2017 on Criminal Law - Missouri
More details to this question:
I made a stupid mistake (not sure what I was thinking) and was caught for shoplifting ($160 Halloween costumes). Charged with misdemeanor and given a court date in September. I have never done this before nor do I have any kind of record in the past. I am sick to my stomach as to now I can't believe I did that. Do you recommend finding a lawyer to help me with this? Is there anyway I can get this so that it doesn't appear on my record?

You need to hire an experienced criminal defense attorney to represent you for your shoplifting charge. Your attorney may be able to get the charge dismissed or reduced to a lesser offense, such as "Littering."
