What are your opinions on what I should do if I got pulled over last night for an out license plate light?

More details to this question:
I didn't know there was a beer sitting on the floor on the passenger side where my friend was sitting before I dropped him off at his house. The police officer asked if it was mine and I told him no. I still got charged for open intoxication but I didn't get a DUI because I wasn't drinking.
