More details to this question:
I told them and got a police report that they said it’s no good to them. I still make payments to them every week but sometime I can’t cause I may only work two days at McDonalds some time. They say that they going to have me locked up to go to court I don’t want to get locked up what do I need to do.
You have to still pay for the items but they cannot have you "locked up," That is a lie and they could get in trouble for even saying that. It is illegal to threaten or lie like that to collect a bill.
Dude, you shoulda bought some insurance! As things stand based on your description - you will probably have to pay them based on the terms of your contract. However, you should read that contract thoroughly - there may be a clause that deals with your situation or you may have purchased insurance through Rent-A-Center and don't know it. The good news is you are most likely not going to jail. The only criminal charge I can think of that they may possibly be able to get you charged with is called Secreting Lien Property - which is basically hiding property that has a lien on it. In your case the property was stolen and you have a police report, so odds are you will not get charged or if you do - you won't get convicted. If it were me in your situation - I wouldn't pay them squat. Its gonna spank your credit rating and you most likely won't be able to ever buy from the Rent-A-Center again but at least you don't have to pay an outrageous amount for property you no longer have. The only real downside to not paying them is they could potentially get a judgment against you however, as long as you don't have money in the bank or assets that they can seize - their judgment is worthless.
If they try to get you locked up for the debt it would be illegal. If they threaten that then see a lawyer that represents debtors. They may have to pay for such an illegal threat.
You sound like you're in some serious trouble. My first question to you is: Why would you get stuff at Rent A Center when you only had a job at working 2 days at McDonald's? Those interest rates are through the roof.
