What can I do if I was given a bad check?

More details to this question:
I have not spent all the money but a good portion of it is gone and I would like to report this person and no longer owe the bank money

If you received a hot check from someone, you must send a specific letter to them demanding payment. A form letter can be obtained from your local prosecutors' office. If it is not paid, you can file criminal charges against the person.

Wait, so you never cashed the check, you just started spending money that you thought the check would cover? Then that's a breach of contract civil suit and you can press charges for writing a bad check.
