QUESTION

What can I do regarding a CCW after an expungement?

More details to this question:
Over 40 years ago, I got in trouble and was found not guilty by reason of insanity. I got my records legally expunged and went on to become a successful law enforcement officer for ten years with the Department of Corrections. During that time, I was authorized to carry and use firearms. Last Saturday, I successfully completed a CCW Class. I received full paperwork and documents to apply to the county sheriff department for my license to carry a concealed weapon to protect myself and my family. According to the unsigned application to apply for a CCW License, it specifically ask, if I have ever been adjudged insane or found not guilty by reason of insanity. Since my records were legally expunged and I have been a law enforcement officer (now retired) for ten years, must I disclose my past on this application to carry a concealed weapon? The application clearly states that failure to answer these questions truthfully is a felony, punishable by imprisonment and fines. I feel like I am between a rock and a hard place. Please give me some direction or should I just give up? I don't want to go to prison and yet, things are so bad here that I feel compelled to exercise my second amendment rights bear arms! There never has been a felony conviction on my record.

Update Your Profile
If it was truly expunged it legally ceased to exist. Get the details to an attorney and get an option, in writing, on how to respond. If is not to reveal, place it in your files as defense if there is ever any question. Good luck.
