QUESTION

What charges would be brought against individual?

Asked on Dec 30th, 2025 on DUI/DWI - California
More details to this question:
My ex was under the influence of some kind of narcotic when he willingly and knowingly chose to drive his car into a MetroPCS store, causing the building to collapse on-top us. Because of the impact , I received a laceration on my face that required stitches to control bleeding. He has 2 prior DUI’s already, none of which resulted in GBI or high monetary value loss such as this one. Online, it seems as if the only charges he’s facing is a DUI. I feel as though there should be additional charges because of all the damage he caused to not only the business but to myself as well. What kind of charges would that be, and what are the consequences? Thank you.

I am sorry that happened to you.  It sounds like you might be correct.  However, if you have a consultation with an experienced criminal defense litigator then I think it would give you more clarity as to what your options as a victim might be.  What the District Attorney’s Office decides to charge is up to a charging Deputy DA.  However, you can try and contact that DDA via the victim-witness section of the office.  You could also hire counsel to do it for you.  Do you have medical records of your injuries that required treatment?  You have options.

The response/answer provided is not legal advice nor does it form an attorney-client relationship.
