What could happen if you are charged with forgery?

My fiancé is in a county jail waiting his preliminary hearing for this charge the check was $685, the women isn't pressing charges, she was then drop them after the bank pairs her the money back, then the state still charged him, what could happen to him? Will they ask him to pay the money back? Or will he be convicted?
It is still a crime whether she is reimbursed or not. Theses cases can be worked out for a dismissal if restitution is paid. If you can pay the money at the hearing, his attorney may be able to get a dismissal or withdrawal of the charges.
