What do i do?

More details to this question:
I am a grad student and had gone out drinking with my friends. During this evening, one of my friends' boyfriends showed up and in a conversation was very disrespectful to me and used foul language. He was not supposed to even be there since him and his girlfriend were in a lovers spat over some issues. His language upset me so i called my boyfriend to come pick me up from the bar since i was too intoxicated to drive. When he showed up to get me, i told him what had happened and he got upset too. So to stand up for me, he went into the bar to speak to the guy that had upset me and in a rush said that if he spoke to me that way again he would shoot him in the head. Now my boyfriend did not intend to do this by any means, he is not the violent kind at all. Even the other guy scoffed and didnt take him seriously. 4 days later, i get a call from the cops asking to get in touch with my boyfriend. Could he be facing any charges ?

The simple answer is "yes", he can be facing charges.  I suggest he hire an attorney immediately if he hasn't already.  Under no condition should he speak to the police about the events that occurred.
